Ureterolithotomy is a procedure to remove stones from the ureter. The ureter is a tube between the kidney and the bladder. Urine passes down to the bladder through this tube. In open ureterolithotomy 3 – 4 inch incision is done on skin.
Laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) procedures use small 5mm to 10mm incisions are done. This helps to avoid large incisions that are used during open surgery. Recently this surgery is also done retroperitoneoscopically ( Laparoscopic procedure without entering abdomen). With this method return of intestine motility is quickest.
